Position: General Manager, Digital
Reporting to: President, Radio One
Location: New York
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
Radio One is seeking to recruit a world-class digital executive to further develop Radio One's digital strategy, monetize its online business and bring overall managerial and operational leadership to Radio One's 53 radio stations across 15 markets. This individual will oversee the evolution of the Web properties with the objective of increasing consumer engagement and loyalty to increase unique visits, page views, and time on site. He/she will lead the full realization and optimization of the business potential of the Radio One web sites in the short term, as well as their continued growth and development moving forward. The General Manager will be managing a group of employees in New York City and in the Radio One markets across the country and have budget and traffic responsibility for the Radio One digital properties.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The major responsibilities will include:
• Lead the overall online business analysis, strategy, branding and implementation plan and budget with responsibility and accountability to meet the Radio One's revenue and profit goals;
• Develop and effectively monitor performance against financial plan, and identify and exploit revenue growth opportunities and continually monitor costs;
o Establish budgets and growth plans
o Focus resources on highest potential activities to deliver profitable growth
• Work closely with the Interactive One team to oversee, develop and expand the overall functionality, user interface, design, and content of the Web sites;
• Maintain and apply up-to-date knowledge of market trends and business models affecting Internet advertising, marketing services, community models, and search tools that will expand and drive rapid growth of Radio One's digital businesses;
• Oversee the creation of a collection of strategic partnerships, content syndication and licensing deals with major online entities designed to drive content distribution, increased monetization and online traffic;
• Attract, develop, mentor, retain and further grow a high-caliber team of sales managers, content and support staff motivating them to succeed in a changing competitive marketplace;
• Organize and focus the Interactive One production and technical staff to provide the appropriate development support in order to achieve Radio One's digital business goals;
• Analyze and deliver key metrics around product usage, along with research to continually evolve Radio One's digital products to be best in class;
• Manage build versus buy decisions for developing online content and features being sensitive to cost and time-to-market considerations;
IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE
The ideal candidate will be a digitally-savvy, high-energy executive who demonstrates a strong performance track record in growing online consumer content-driven businesses. We are looking for a forward-thinking strategist and operational doer with sensitivity to quality content and editorial judgment. He/she should demonstrate most, if not all, of the following:
• A minimum of 10-15 years of overall experience and proven general management skills with the strategic and operational capability of building an online consumer content business, ideally with an advertiser-supported business model;
• A deep understanding of what works online, what drives traffic and up-to-date knowledge of technologies and search optimization tools - particularly current and emerging Internet and web technologies, social media, tools, portals, interactive features, video, community, etc.;
• Sophisticated analytical skills, bridging both strategic and implementation level and an understanding of complex online metrics with the ability to analyze data to develop and improve site performance and consumer engagement;
• Knowledge about market intelligence and customer research, with experience translating customer insights into new features and functionality;
• Strong strategic business acumen and intellectual bandwidth;
• Results oriented, extremely proactive and highly responsive individual with impressive leadership skills;
• Excellent team management skills, including the ability to recruit, direct, coach, and mentor direct reports and staff in a way that motivates top performance and inspires collaborative behavior and company loyalty;
• Excellent group presentation and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to write and deliver succinct business proposals and plans;
• The ability to assess and prioritize among multiple business opportunities and to determine which opportunities can provide maximum impact on the company's business objectives;
• Results oriented, extremely proactive and highly responsive individual with excellent negotiation skills and a sense of urgency being key;
• Excellent written, presentation, and verbal communication skills;
• Highest standards of professional integrity and personal ethics;
• Knowledgeable and well-informed about music, pop culture and African-American affairs;
• College degree required.
