MySpace makes Apple lose marbles?

MySpace makes Apple lose marbles?

Does MySpace Music pose any real threat to the foothold iTunes enjoys in digital music retail? MySpace has just finalised deals with Nettwerk Music Group, Ingrooves and IRIS Distribution among others to provide content for MySpace’s intended drive for its users to sample and consume both major label and indy content through its pages. A captive audience of over 200 million members is nothing to be sniffed at and something iTunes / Apple must be all too aware of.

Terry McBride, chief executive at Nettwerk stated “We have always valued MySpace as a top partner in allowing music fans and our artists to connect, and we look forward to further developing our relationship with such an innovative and forward-thinking company”.

Do iTunes and MySpace even have the same eventual goal or are they by definition two different beasts alltogether?

I think the most important question is how loyal is this audience? What happens when they get bored of MySpace and move on to the next new thing?

I don’t think iTunes has to worry too much

Myspace is already looking tired. I’m not convinced that myspace music is anything more than millions of artists selling virtually no music all chasing the same few dollars
